How successful are TOP CAR websites?

With the recent success of Aston Martin’s website award and a recent email from Tom at www.Creditplus  it prompted me to do some  research into how successful  a selection of motoring activity websites are. Tom outlined that my 3 month old  website had a 0 out of 10 Google PageRanking  on the 5th November. A week later after some research  I am pleased to say it now has a 1 out of 10 global page ranking. So we are making progress since my Press launch of TOPCARNEWS at School.

My research followed the usual Google search by  typing in PageRanking which gave the following details:-

Google PageRank (Google PR) is one of the methods Google uses to determine a page's relevance or importance. Important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results. Google PageRank (PR) is a measure from 0 -10.Google PageRank is based on backlinks. The more quality backlinks the higher Google PageRank.  Improving your Google page rank (building quality backlinks) is very important if you want to improve your search engine rankings.

My next Google Search was on “How many websites are there in the world?” The answer is it is impossible to be absolutely certain how many websites there are in the world but UK research company Netcraft have released their latest September 2012 survey of web servers and concluded there are about 620 million websites in the world today – a rise of 135 million (28%) in the last year.

Interestingly, the number of active sites is only 190 million – so there are 430 million inactive sites. That suggests that two thirds of all the websites in the world are not actually being used – but why not? Netcraft think it is because many of these will be domain names bought to cover every possible eventuality e.g. a large company like Apple might buy the Apple .info and .net and .org domain names (and many others) to prevent cyber-squatters misusing them to profit from the goodwill of the Apple trademark.

Others could be speculative domain names registered by individuals e.g. you might register your-own-name.com just in case you ever get famous   And the rest are likely to be domain names that have been pre-registered in bulk by domain companies to sell off later. The graph below shows  that 5 years ago (Sept 2007) the total number of sites (hostnames) was only 135 million – just 21% of the current total. The rise of the internet is further shown by the fact that the total number of new sites added in the whole of 2007 was just 40m – nowadays that rate of increase can be achieved in a couple of months!

In fact the total number of active sites has more than doubled in the last 2 years alone. No wonder that it’s almost impossible to find a good website name still available if you want to create a new online presence – so if you fancy having your own personal domain name (and email address – because having email sent to your own name is quite cool!) now might be the time to buy one!

With the iPad being introduced in early 2010 it seems more than a coincidence of the rapid rise. In 2011 over 55 million Ipads were sold and the global market is likely to be 275 Million by 2015. So the market for mobile information is vast.

Using the Checkpagerank website  a quick study of 15 sites gave the following results.

Company      Google Page Ranking     Global Ranking

Not surprisingly, Facebook is No.1.

So after nearly 100 days, Topcarnews.co.uk is  ranked 8,992,068 out of some 680,000,000 registered website, or put another way in the top 1.5%!!! Tell a friend about this website and I might get to a Google Page ranking of 2 by Christmas.
